Fort Hood area · Killeen TX · Army transition assistance office
Free transition training and employment assistance for soldiers leaving service and also for Department of the Army civilians, retirees, veterans, family members and caregivers: benefits counseling, career preparation, and employment assistance. Transitioning service members and veterans may participate in TAP for life, so this remains available after separation. You must first register and complete the Enterprise Individualized Self-Assessment online, then contact the office to be scheduled for Individualized Initial Counseling. This is an on-post facility requiring installation access or a sponsor — call before driving out. Hours Mon-Thu 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Fri 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; second line 254-288-5627.

Two Texas Veterans Commission Veterans Employment Representatives (a DVOP and an LVER) are stationed here for job referrals, military-to-civilian crosswalk help and employer connections; the second representative's line is 254-296-5238 and the center's toll-free line is 1-866-982-9226. A Texas Workforce Commission Veterans Resource and Referral Specialist also covers this office at 512-914-7465, but that is a mobile line for a specialist who also covers the Rural Capital Area, so call ahead rather than assuming walk-in availability.
