Applicants start with a short preliminary form on the site and can either ask to be matched with a trained dog or get help training their own; the organization states there are little to no costs associated with the program. It also offers voluntary Christ-centered emotional wellness support alongside the dog training, and it is a small operation, so expect wait times.

There is no application fee and no charge for the dog or the training; recipients pay only for travel to training and normal dog-ownership costs after graduation. Applicants must live in Iowa or a bordering state and commit to about six months of classes plus a team clinic in West Des Moines.

Direct line to the Women Veterans Program Manager, who assigns a women's health primary care provider and coordinates gynecology, maternity care and postpartum support, mammograms and ultrasounds, mental health counseling, and care for military sexual trauma. Free to women veterans enrolled in VA health care; call to be connected rather than walking in.

Temple TX · Fort Hood area state veterans nursing home
State-owned long-term skilled nursing home for qualified Texas veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents, administered by the GLO's Veterans Land Board and regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the VA. The home opened in 2000 and has 160 beds, 32 of them designated for memory care. NOT free for everyone: the GLO states veterans with a 70% or higher service-connected disability 'can generally live in our homes for free,' while other residents pay a room rate the GLO publishes in a current rate sheet. Admission is governed by medical, financial and military service criteria; call the home for admission information or a tour.
