Certification test fee payback
The VA reimburses up to $2,000 per test for licensing and certification exams required for a job, such as CDL, journeyman, and IT certifications, using part of your GI Bill entitlement. Approved prep courses can also be covered under the Post-9/11 GI Bill and DEA.

The Veterans Resource Center is at the Highland campus address above, open Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; veteran services are also offered at the Round Rock and Hays campuses, so check campus availability before going. You must provide a DD Form 214 for transcript evaluation.
Killeen TX · Fort Hood area community college veterans office
Free VA education benefit certification for CTC students: submitting your Certificate of Eligibility, certifying enrollment each term, and evaluation of your Joint Services Transcript for military credit. The walk-in office is Student Services Building, Room 215 on Central Campus in Killeen; a separate CTC office serves students on Fort Hood at Building 3201, 72nd Street, 254-526-1917. An approved certificate or degree plan is required before your first semester can be certified, so contact this office early.

Austin TX · Texas state education benefit, usable at public colleges statewide incl. Austin, San Marcos, Killeen, Temple and Waco
State benefit giving qualified Texas veterans, and in some cases their spouses and children, up to 150 credit hours of tuition exemption including most fee charges at Texas public colleges and universities. It does NOT cover living expenses, books or supply fees. Core veteran requirements: Texas home of record or entry into service in Texas, at least 181 days active duty excluding initial entry training, honorable or general-under-honorable discharge, current Texas residency, and no federal education benefit dedicated to fully covering tuition and fees. Additional rules apply (no default on a Texas-guaranteed student loan, tax-supported courses, satisfactory academic progress). The college — not TVC — makes the final eligibility decision, so apply through your school's veteran services office; the general email is hazlewood@tvc.texas.gov.
Temple TX · Fort Hood area community college veterans office
Free VA education benefit certification and advising for Temple College students using Chapter 30, 31, 33, 35 or 1606 benefits, plus Hazlewood Act exemption processing, military credit evaluation, VA work-study applications, and tuition assistance guidance. The office is on the 3rd floor of the Main Building, Room 308. The number listed is the VA Coordinator's direct line; the college main line is 254-298-8282 and a Veteran Success Navigator is also on staff at 254-298-8465. Fall and spring hours are Mon-Thu 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Fri 8 a.m.-noon.

Free processing of federal and state education benefits for Texas State students and applicants — GI Bill certification under Chapters 30, 33 and 35, the Fry Scholarship, Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment, and Hazlewood Act exemptions. Certification is requested each term through an online certification request; first-semester students must also send an official JST or CCAF transcript and a DD-214 (Member 4). San Marcos TX · Austin metro free college-prep program for veterans
Federally funded TRIO program that prepares veterans for college admission and success at no cost: help with applications, transcripts and entrance exams, academic refresher courses and one-on-one tutoring, navigation of VA benefits, financial aid and scholarships, peer mentoring, and referrals to veteran organizations and campus resources. Eligibility requirements apply, though the program states it will not turn away a veteran in need. The program office is in Sterry Hall; 400 N LBJ Drive is the program's mailing and general contact address.
