Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station

Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at a glance

Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station are separate Florida installations connected by the Eastern Range launch mission. Space Launch Delta 45 provides the range instrumentation, infrastructure, scheduling and flight safety functions supporting space and ballistic launches. Patrick is the installation support community, while Cape Canaveral is the associated launch station; this combined guide covers both constituents.

Patrick also supports publicly identified partners including the Air Force Technical Applications Center, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute and the Reserve 920th Rescue Wing. Its history began with Banana River Naval Air Station, commissioned in 1940 for seaplane patrol activities. The Navy transferred the site to the Air Force in 1948, leading to the long-range missile proving-ground identity and subsequent Patrick name.

Patrick and Cape Canaveral are separate sites

Space Launch Delta 45 supports the Eastern Range across Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Its public responsibilities include infrastructure, instrumentation and other support for space launches and related activity. Patrick also supports organizations with different roles, including the Air Force Technical Applications Center, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute and 920th Rescue Wing. An assignment to this community is therefore not necessarily a launch-operations posting.

Patrick began as Naval Air Station Banana River in 1940 before its transfer to the Air Force and later Patrick designation. The paired installations adopted Space Force names in 2020. They remain separate physical sites in Brevard County, Florida. Confirm whether the actual workplace is at Patrick, Cape Canaveral or another assigned location before selecting a home or interpreting a combined installation directory.

The offered neighborhood affects school arrangements

Hunt’s Patrick Family Housing manages privatized family homes, while the Military Housing Office provides official application and community-housing guidance. The housing page distinguishes neighborhoods including Oceanside, River’s Edge and Pelican Coast. A family should confirm the specific residence and possession date rather than assume a general Patrick housing application identifies where it will live.

The page states that there are no schools on base and describes Brevard Public Schools serving housing residents. It lists different elementary-school arrangements by neighborhood and notes that transportation depends in part on location. Verify current school boundaries, grade placement and bus eligibility with the district or school liaison. A home that suits a Patrick workplace may produce a different duty journey for a Cape Canaveral assignment, so align school and work destinations with the actual address.

The clinic location is distinct from Cape Canaveral work

The 45th Medical Group at Patrick provides outpatient services including family practice, flight medicine, pediatrics and physical therapy, with supporting pharmacy, laboratory and imaging functions. The official guide states that Patrick has no emergency room. A Cape Canaveral duty location should not be assumed to have the same clinical services immediately adjacent.

Establish the receiving primary-care relationship and clarify how specialist referrals and prescriptions will continue after relocation. The medical guide describes newcomer orientation to medical-group services, which can help resolve where and how each patient obtains care. A household managing ongoing treatment should identify the actual appointment location and any community provider before ending its previous arrangements. Include those care journeys alongside school and duty transportation when comparing Brevard County homes.

5. Make a short list of contacts for medical care, schools, childcare and family support, where applicable to your assignment.
